How did the Wireless concert in Finsbury Park affect you?
Today (Sunday) was the first of four Wireless festivals/concerts in Finsbury Park. I'm surprised there are no posts about it. Did it affect you? Any feedback (or photos) is being collated by the Friends of Finsbury Park.

That doesn't sound right. Yet another reason why these concerts are not good for the area. What are these people going to do if they are prevented from getting in? They'll be loose on our streets and they don't sound like the sort of people with, how shall I say it, good manners.
Hubby has been ringing me on and off all day, (I'm away from home) and despite our newly installed double glazed windows, I could still hear the noise in the background.

Tbh, flaunting urban acts like Drake and Kendrick Lemar and locking the community out, in an area where there a hundreds of kids who live here and want to but can't afford to see them is asking for trouble. I'm not surprised.

In my day, we just sat on the children's climbing frame in FP and enjoyed the show for free (The Cure, Great X-Pectations, 1993)

Really noisy today right up to 10:30. I saw someone monitoring the sound levels over on quernmore road with a mic - looked like he worked for the festival. It really is terrible that Finsbury Park becomes a no go area and residents have to suffer noise pollution when this crap is on.

It's not just the park that's a no-go area, it's all around. Hubby has told me that Stroud Green Rd and all the shops were packed this morning with queues outside the more popular ones. Great for the local businesses, not so good for him as all he wanted was a paper and some milk. My local pub was also far too busy to have a relaxing pint in.
Were there any fireworks tonight?

I suggest you make your views known to the council (parks@haringey.gov.uk and join the Friends of Finsbury Park who continue to campaign against the council's large events policy

For these two days thanks to the festival we had some kind of a mini earthquake in our house. Noise is not only the problem we had. When you on a sofa, you can feel that it moves. Tables are shaking, things dropping from shelves. It is awful and can damage the house. Maybe it depends where you live. I can`t believe that sound can be so strong. We were affected badly, very disappointing. This is a wrong place for such event.

ok so I went to the festival yesterday, as although Im an old fart(sorry does that count as swearing- hope not) i actually like the music- so i could also be a spy
My thoughts
Strict bag/body searches going in, no glass to be seen anywehre
Out of 45,000 people, 44,900 where under the age 0f 20 and havent yet learnt that if they drop something, their mum wont always be around to pick it up,lol, so lots of work/jobs created in cleaning up
The vibe was fantastic- everywhere lots of very smiley, happy, friendly youngsters having a blast- probably saved up for weeks/months for the ticket)- didnt see any trouble
massive shortage of loos, come on organisers sort it, people dont want to have to join queues of any length, let alone long ones
at minimum about £62/ticket with 45,000 people each for 3days, plus however many last wkend- do your arithmatic that is 10,s millions of pounds generated, which even with all the outgoings, is a massive amount of income- the council says it goes back into the parks- so i assume that is why all the parks in haringay have had a massive makeover over the last 5-10years, which we all enjoy
i wonder why it upsets people so much more over the last 2-3years, wonder what has changed from all the previous 7years it has been on, and all the previous years before that when other big festivals were held there- from my garden doesnt seem to be any louder
But shocked at the images of people trying to fight their way in, disgusting- but dont blame the organisers or entertainers for the behaviour of those hooligans
When I bought my flat, part of the attraction was the peace- but hadnt figured on young babies/children moving in next door, so screaming kids in the garden- unfortunately its not against the law during twilight hours
I also hadnt figured on the flat upstairs being let out to students who do like a good loud party
But we learn to adapt and find ways to manage these things- so if wireless offends you so much, then its definitely a wkend away- what a great excuse to get away
Otherwise see it as your deed to the bright young generation of london- good karma

Tens of millions of pounds? For who? Last year the council made £845,000 from hiring out the park. I did an FOI request. I can assure you very little goes back in the park. http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/finsbury-park-freedom-o...

Not all of us have the ways and means to get away and are trapped here suffering all that is not nice from these events. I have never liked the idea at any time of losing part of the park to any large commercial business and have complained about it from the start. I had a young child then, he's now 36 and not only has he grown but so has the size of the concert area, let alone the sound, (noise). If I stay in I still hear it, and I can't go out any where far enough away to get away from it. The whole area is affected, inside the park and out. The school opposite me is gift wrapped to stop 'things' going through the railings. The shops are packed with people and when they've gone they're empty of produce. Great for the shops, not so good for us. It's the simple pleasures in life, walking the dog, having a pint in your local or a picnic in the park or popping out for a paper and a pint of milk. All these things have be taken away from us while a bunch of complete strangers come in, take over OUR park, encourage thousands of other people to come and invade and disrupt us then leave us with a wreck that can take months to recover while THEY rake in all that money from it all. How is that right?
