Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

House burgled - seeking priceless family heirlooms/jewelry

Hello All,

This is my first post on Harringay Online as my wife and I moved to the Ladder in October of 2014. I wish my first post was done under better circumstances, but unfortunately, whilst we were away for the holidays, our flat was burgled. We aren't sure of the exact incident date/time, as we are still abroad and our sister-in-law discovered the intrusion on the 2nd of Jan after visiting our flat to water our plants.

The burglars went right for our bedroom and nicked my wife's macbook and other things. But the most upsetting things taken were her family heirlooms. A mid-size green wooden box housed 5-6 generations of engagement rings and other meaningful jewelry from my wife's mum, grandmother, etc...

My wife's grandmother had a hand-written note with all of the jewelry that was in the box: http://i.imgur.com/LJE6kKj.jpg

From this letter, the descriptions for the jewelry inside the green box mentioned above are as follows:

  • Ruby & diamond ring
  • Opal & Diamond ring
  • Citrine & Diamond ring
  • Gold watch
  • Gold cuff links
  • Silver nugget
  • Charm bracelet
  • Coral necklace
  • Silver buckle
  • Amber earrings
  • Millefiori pendant
  • Silver-mounted lion's claw
  • Abalone scarf pin

Obviously the likelihood of this getting returned is low, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Thank you everyone and please do be secure and vigilant.

So sorry to hear this Sean. As you say, worth a shot to post the list - I really hope you find them and that the damage to the rest of your flat and possessions isn't too bad.

Thank you Alison.

Damage to the flat seems to be minimal. And it seems the only things that were taken were jewelry and my wife's Macbook. The burglars seemed to be quite "professional": in-and-out and go right for the small things.

I'm so sorry to hear about this Sean, fingers crossed you get some/all of it back. Which road was this on and how did they get in? Have you contacted the police?

We were going away for the holidays and I noticed a couple of guys on bikes stopped opposite watching us and peering into our hallway as we were loading up the car. I had a funny feeling about them so I got my fella to do a big ostentatious "goodbye" and park round the block until they had gone so that it looked like only one of us was leaving and they cycled off as I went back inside. It felt like they were paying far too much attention to us, although it might have all been innocent.

Thank you for tweeting!

Different Lauren, not me.
So sorry to hear this how upsetting. Have a look in that old pawn looking jewelers when you get back next to the train station by McDonald's they may have tried to sell it to him . It's a long shot. I really hope you get it back

Thanks Tina. Good idea! I'll do that tomorrow!

Try the cash for computers shops too. There's one on Green Lanes near Mattison Rd and one further down towards Barclays. Some in Wood Green too.
Gumtree and eBay also.

I lost my grandfathers ring to robbers in crouch end. It's a terrible loss.

The thing to try and remember is that memories are more important and ensure you have a good golf club at hand for next time.
