Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.

I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.

Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.

Thanks Nicolas.  Cllr Schmitz did pass me your concerns.  I will continue to pass on concerns but realistically I don't think there is the capacity to do ongoing enforcement in individual roads.

I am continuing to liaise with the council regarding the signage (or lack of it) and hope to make some progress on this.  Meanwhile there is ongoing enforcement on Wightman (which has a knock on effect on the ladder roads) - they have issued 150 fines over the last few weeks.  I'll keep pushing for a fixed camera as I am pretty sure this would be self-financing.

I'll suggest a reduction in the weight limit - it sounds very sensible to me, and see what they say.

How about Jewsons? As you will see from the comments above, they are the worst offender when it comes to using the ladder roads. Does the council plan to discuss their use and abuse of the access only rule?

Yes, Jewsons are the worst offender on Burgoyne and Cavendish.  As detailed in the previous thread (see link above) we have tried to engage with them, and they told us to get stuffed, as the Council seems to have assured them they can do what they want.

Yes, sorry, I forgot to mention Jewsons.  I'll talk to enforcement again and see what options are open to us - Ill speak to them as well

Thanks Karen, I echo the serious concerns about Jewson's abuse of the ladder roads - in particular Burgoyne and Cavendish.

Thanks Karen, much appreciated. Let us know how you get on.

I am sorry, don't shoot the messenger.

If one studies the map of Wightman and ladder roads it seems there is no alternative for the Jewson drivers using the Wightman road depot. The whole area around them is 7.5 tonne. The best (shortest) access route in and out is via Burgoyne and Cavendish.

What about up and down Wightman? Also what part of their site are Jewson accessing when they go down Burgoyne? I look forward to the messenger's thoughts.

Jewsons go up and down Wightman too ( also a 7.5 T limit ) They have to get in and out somehow.

I am sorry, don't shoot the messenger. . . .the map of Wightman and ladder roads

For some messengers, shooting is just too damn good.

Wightman IS a Ladder road.

Children, shall we get out our crayons and draw a bloody ladder?  (Well it will be bloody before the night's out.)

John D: I think that was acknowledged by everyone at the start.  When we contacted Jewsons last summer, the message we tried to give them was that if they could ensure that their drivers behaved considerately, there wouldn't be a problem.

One of their drivers in particular I always see driving slowly and courteously down Burgoyne.  The problem is that he is the exception, not the rule, and that Jewsons refused to engage once they concluded that there would be no consequences for them if they did nothing.  I think by their conduct they have demonstrated they have no interest in being good neighbours to anyone on the ladder (including, for the avoidance of doubt, the much put-upon citizens of Wightman, who while they may not live on a rung, do live on a very fine side-member indeed).

Mr OAE, your tone is wrong.
