Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Help! I need some written memories of the Arena and/ or Stadium for a project

I guess I am addressing this to the older members of HOL (but not necessarily) especially our History bloggers. I am putting together a short project for my studies on the Arena and Stadium. Obviously, I have Hugh's excellent articles for the facts and I have collected a couple of snippets from other discussions but if you ever attended a show, saw a circus, remember what it was like to live near them, have a family member/ neighbour who has these memories please please, please could you write it down either as a blog post on here, tagged 'Harringay memories' or send it to me as a document.

I would be most grateful. I have to write a proposal for conserving something of our local heritage and I am suggesting an electronic archive of material on the Arena/Stadium with a view to an exhibition. I would like a few examples of witness accounts which would also I have argued serve as a witness to the social history of the neighbourhood in the post war years (if I'm lucky enough to get anything pre war, I 'd consider it a BIG bonus).
Thanking anyone in advance who offers any little snippets
Liz

There isn't an urgent deadline as such as this material would be a follow up to an initial letter I'm drafting but Christmas may be a little late, earlier if possible. Cheeky I know, sorry.
Any memories gratefully received.
There seems to be a cluster of older long-term residents on many roads. If you like I can check with one or two of the Hewitt ones.
yes please, although the study project is meant to be just an exercise, I intend to send the letter I'm drafting for real and I would like some material to demonstrate that the project is viable.
I'm sorry Liz, but apart from the sound of dogs and bikes/cars I can offer no other memories. I never actually went to the stadium to see an event and we moved when I was 10. Both my parents are dead so I can't ask them either. All the best with your project though :-)
Okay, no probs Chris but even a short snippet about the impact race days had on the neighbourhood would be useful.
If you haven't already looked at it try The Story of Harringay Stadium and Arena by Mike Ticher (HHS, 2002, £4)
Thanks John, planning to get a copy. So far I have relied on Hugh's articles and the photo archive on here, but its early days yet on my course, so may need it later.
