Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I am being inundated with pop ups! I've run AVG,Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Spybot S+D. I've checked IE and Chrome for add ons and removed any search engines I can. I've noticed that there are folders called Microsoftbing which don't delete. This has happened very suddenly and I can usually deal with it. Its as if all my pc protection disappeared!

Get an iPad, thay kind of stuff never happens.

This is why I shell out for Macs.

I think you're right John. PC Windows-boxes look cheap ... at the outset. Then the costs mount, including the most insidious, that few trouble to tabulate: lost time. My guess would be that total costs of ownership – the only sensible measure – are lower on Macs.

Try control panel > programs> install/uninstall - see if there are any new ones you dont recognise?  I let a sneaky little sod in when downloading a  sticky note program - it kept offering me  things on every commercial site, ebay etc., in a bar across the screen.  Adblock no help. Could only fix it by deleting the program, so goodbye useful stickynote program.

Hope Marek's bike is up to the trip to where you now are??

Yup. As Pamish suggested, it was a rogue program(not always easy to spot). So I deleted it and a couple of other things which I didn't recognise but it was ok as I could download them again. Turned out to be a prog called 'Positive Resources'. No clue in the name.

Hi Marek,

I have a sony vaio laptop. Every six months the hard drive fails which Fasteck has replaced. I am now on the 3rd hard drive!!

Now it keeps crashing saying it cannot find the operating system. I reinstall the original software, it works for a few days and then crashes. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Adrian.

What about the internet and wireless connection?

Unless you've deliberately changed or installed something recently there should be a backup point you can restore to prior to the pop ups which may solve the issue (afraid I haven't used windows in a while). A quick Google should show you how to do it.
