Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have an elderly combi boiler which conked out several weeks ago, leaving me with no CH or hot water. I had a (Which? Trusted Trader) tradesman look at it today and he threw up his hands in horror at its age and said no way could he repair it as the spare parts were no longer made.

He quoted me £3k inc VAT for a replacement, which I simply cannot afford. Does anyone have any ideas about how I could get it repaired or replaced more cheaply or is there some other system i could buy/install that would at least give me hot water?

I have a small flat and I am finding a fan heater in the living room OK for heating at the moment

Any and all ideas greatfully received!!

Did you contact the manufacturer directly to ask whether spare parts still available? Even if they no longer stock them they may be able to direct you to a third party who has parts. General advice https://www.moneysupermarket.com/new-boiler/how-often-should-a-boil...

Nightmare! How about getting an electric shower as it heats the water and similar for the kitchen sink?

It is hard/impossible to get parts for old boilers. I had same problem with my old faithful boiler that finally gave up. So went for a new one. These things are not cheap and that VAT is a lot. Have you looked into the possibility of getting a grant to help with cost? You could check eligibility for help with a new one.
