Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Really glad to see the crazy invasion of Health and Saftey regulations into our daily lives has not managed to hold us here on the Ladder back at all...

I dare not take the picture any closer for fear it would have the guy start to take offence and fall!!! Stunning.

Cannot remember if this was between Beresford and Allison or Allison and Hewitt...

Hmm not sure I agree.  Sometimes people do things because they HAVE to earn the money.  Nobody marches people in to the dreadful sweatshops in Bangladesh, India or China, but if you have to do it to feed your family then you do it whether you want to or not....

Yes, a fair point Charlotte, but he is not in Bangladesh where his is so bound by poverty that he has no choice, or in China where the state will harvest your organs after putting you in front of the firing squad (a bit of an extreme example, but I am sure you get my drift).

The tools to do most jobs are available (like my example of the council workmen not using ear defenders). This guy made choices. Use a ladder, do not use a ladder, etc.

I agree to some extent but it is a bit more obvious when people are asked to work with dangerous material s but not told the dangers or given proper teaming and equipment. The guy on the photo clearly knew the risk
Let's face it on the current climate he could have said no way I am nervous of heights. ( I am making some educated guesses!)

He's a joiner installing new timber sash windows (and they look lovely). I had a new sash installed in the same place and although he used a ladder, he stood on the sill in the same way in which this chap did. I didn't bat an eyelid.

Unsafe working practices going on at the house opposite me, dubious scaffolding construction of no proper boarding just two loose planks and workers balancing on them in FLIPFLOPS. Hammers being chucked down from height, mess all over the footpath, workers swinging from the bars like monkeys to get up it as no ladder access. Called the council they said unless the scaffding is falling down they can't act on it til Monday. I hope nobody dies before then.
Update on this I got a call back from the council they said they won't be doing anything about this as it wasn't an immediate danger to health but if there is an accident I should call 999 who would deal with it.

Saw a guy do an impressive but not very safe vault down from first floor level on that scaffolding today.

If you report it to Haringey, it is unlikely anything will happen. You need to escalate to the Dept of Communities and Local Government who will refer you elsewhere!!!
