Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hawes and Curtis Development on Hold - Parking for Luxury Cars to Take its Place?

It's seems like the Hawes and Curtis redevelopment might have fallen at the fist hurdle and may have been shelved.

I haven't found out why but it's been suggested to me that the Hawes and Curtis development will not going ahead as planned. Apparently, the new Qatari owner hasn't ruled out a future development, but in the meantime the existing building is being repurposed as a 24-hour access parking service.

The cars currently in the lot suggest that it might be a holding pen for the luxury metal of Qatari visitors, but a conversation with the owner suggests that it might also accommodate  sub-£200k cars . So if you need parking from £100 per month, there's now a central Harringay option for that. No website or contact info as yet.

And now according to Andrew they're adding a carwash. Oh joy.

There seems to have been a car wash / lean to of sorts constructed. And about 500k worth of fancy cars are now parked there including a lambo, Merc G Wagon, Bentley, AMG 63, an Escalade amongst others.

A shame. I liked the development idea.

Don't they need planning permission for that ?

If it is a car wash, yes they do. Additionally they need to show how the dirty water run off is being dealt with. If it goes down a street gully or a rainwater drain on site ends up polluting local rivers/streams. The structure will also need to be approved by Building Control.
Car wash gates locked .... has this part of their business closed down? Had a visit from the council?

Not sure where you got the idea it's on hold.

It was deferred from the last planning meeting (the word "maladministration" was heard) but seems to be going to the meeting on 3 November.

This is a horrendous proposal to dump 7 storeys in the middle of an area of 2/3 storey homes.

It does not conform to Haringey's own plan, The London Plan or indeed the Planning Inspectorate. The daylight survey is shoddy to say the least.

There's an "airy fairy" sop to include a health centre, but given no cash promises, nobody will be surprised to see another Tesco Metro

If you'd like to help us campaign for something more in keeping with the area, please get in touch.

Please object at Planning_site

I "got the idea" from the businesses opposite the site who were told by the site owners that they have it on hold. They may or may not be right, but the current occupants have been making modifications to the building to accommodate its use as a car storage unit. So it at least seems that any development will not be immediate.

I'm aware that the scheme for development is still going forward to planning next month. This makes absolute sense since a site with secured planning permission is much more valuable than one without.

It seems very likely in the medium to long-term that the site will be developed. To do anything else just doesn't make financial sense.

No way! Just sitting on it and accumulating the capital gain makes perfect sense. Realising your profit by selling off the flats would be madness.
