Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

In the discussions re the banner, it was suggested that Paul Simon was not a fit and proper company to advertise on the bridge, given that their estate agent boards were illegally left up for weeks, even months, after they should have  been taken down, thereby contributing to the visual pollution from which we all suffer. The Council's reply was that Paul Simon was a reformed character following the change in the franchise holder and was now a respected and cooperative member of the community.

The Council regulations on estate agents' advertising say that boards must indicate that  a sale or let " has been agreed " or is  " subject to contract " and the advertisement must be removed within fourteen days after completion of a sale or the grant of tenancy.

I did a spot check and took a few photographs. The latter show that the following " SOLD " or " LET " boards were in place on 28th June 2011 and are still there today, 25th July, two weeks after they should have been taken down:

5 Alroy  Rd  ( this board has been there for years )

30 Wightman Rd

75 Lausanne Rd

103 Hampden Rd

20 Hampden Rd

None of the Paul Simon boards carry the required agreed / subject to contract wording.

I see no signs of improvement.

The franchise holders are the three blokes who used to work for bairstow eves.

John,

I can only speak for sales (as we have no say over lettings).

75 Lausanne Road, N8 - The property is still For Sale

103 Hampden Road - Is under offer and has not yet exchanged

20 Hampden Road - Is under offer and not yet exchanged.

As you are obviously in the know on the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 and amendments 1994, you will be aware that the boards can remain until 14 days after completion. Since none of the above have completed, we are not in breach of any laws or regulations. However, the signs should have SSTC on them and I wilL bring this up with our board contractor and ensure it is added.

You will hopefully forgive me for feeling like no matter what we do here at Paul Simon, some people will never give us the time of day. Sponsoring local shools and initiatives, working with the planning department to ensure illegal conversions are not given planning and removing any signs that the council deems against their regulations are a few examples. It seems to me that we are holding out the Olive branch, and it is not wanted. We have made an effort since we took over two years ago. We haven't shouted or screamed about it, we have just done it. We are happy to work with local residents & start a dialogue. That is if the local residents want to work with us.

Reuben

Thanks Ruben.

Glad to hear it but if your boards had carried the regulation " subject to contract " I wouldn't have raised the matter.

I'm sorry you feel that your efforts have not been recognised but I am sure you will appreciate that not all residents are aware of your olive branches but we do welcome them.

Thank you John.

The boards at 30 Wightman will be removed by friday. As i said previously, I have no control over the let boards. However, if you have any questions over the sold/sale boards you can email me directly and I will deal with them immediately.

Best,

reuben@paulsimonresidential.co.uk

Thanks Reuben, your offer is, we're sure, much appreciated.
Reuben, do feel free to add a separate post explaining what you've been doing. Whilst we'd all get dulled by any continual marketing, it's important for you to have the chance to get the message across. Feel free to email me if you'd like an exchange / conversation about it first. I'm happy to support any trader working hard to work with the community and will be the first to challenge any inaccuracies (but I can't always promise to spot them!).
Well I put my house up for sale with them last year and I found they always acted with integrity and were very professional and considerate.

Thanks Hugh, I will email you shortly.

Anna, thank you very much for your support.

Ruben, Paul Simon have illegally put upa massive banner on 2 hermitage road, a property I believe you also manage as an HMO. Haringay Planning have passed the matter to Enforcement however the illegal Paul Simon advert is still there as an ongoing reminder to residents of the company's apparent lack of respect for their neighbours and indeed the law. Can you please remove the banner.
Hi Takaokagiejin. As explained, on two occasions above, we do not have control over lettings. When we took over the franchise in 2009 it was on a sales only basis, meaning the previous owners took lettings and management with them. I have worked closed with the Planning department and Brian Ellick has all of my contact details if there is something I can help with that is within my power.

Reuben:

The problem is that the banners / To Let notices do not make it clear that there are different divisions within Paul Simon. You can't blame us for tarring all of Paul Simon with the same brush.

Have you contacted the PS Lettings department to pass on our concerns, explaining that you are being unfairly blamed for their unsocial behaviour ? Or could you give us a contact name / address so that we can do it ?
