Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The local neighbourhood police are teaming up with the Council's enforcement team for a joint 'Week of Action' to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Harringay ward.

The week will include opportunities for local residents to interact with representatives of our local service providers & local politicians and a chance to get involved in the 'action'.

The police and council enforcement team will be working alongside the London Fire Brigade and a number of other agencies as part of the week of action from Monday 11th to Sunday 17th October. The focus will be tackling:

  • anti Social Behaviour by motorists
  • burglary
  • litter and fly tipping

"Proactive operations will include screening arches (do they mean searches?), traffic patrols, and street sweeps in which un-taxed vehicles will be identified and dumped waste reported or removed.

Police will be carrying out crime prevention surveys, with the London Fire Brigade, providing fire safety advice and carrying out free home fire safety visits and fitting free smoke alarms if needed.

There will be an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation and operation 'stop it' running alongside each other. ANPR technology, as well as the knowledge of local officers, is used to target offenders and vehicles suspected of being linked to crime. It is also used to raise the alarm when untaxed or uninsured vehicles and those driven by disqualified motorists pass.

Operation 'stop it' is aimed at tackling fly tippers and involves stopping and checking vehicles carrying waste to see if they hold a waste carriers licence and that they are registered with the Environment Agency as authorised waste carriers. If not they can be liable to a fine or prosecution."
