Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Andreas Stavrou Antoniades, 74, illegally converted a house near Finsbury Park in north London into separate flats. On 21 October he was ordered to pay a £20,000 fine – the maximum magistrates could impose – plus £1,500 in costs and charges after being prosecuted by Haringey council. He will also have to foot the bill for converting the building into three more spacious flats that meet council guidelines.

Tottenham magistrates were told Antoniades ignored repeated demands from council enforcement officers to stop using the property as separate flats, and made an estimated £9,000 a month from letting them out. A repeat offender, he had already been found guilty of a similar offence three years ago, when he received a £13,500 fine.

There was talk earlier in the year that they were going to increase fines and confiscate rental earnings, and even possibly ban landlords from the property industry for repeat offending. That was in August, can't find anything more recent. I'm pretty sure the measures are included in this bill http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2015-16/housingandplanning/docu...

That article also mentions " the UK's worst landlord", Katia Goremsandu - who owns properties in Haringey.

Is he the guy who converted the Dentist Surgery on Harringy Road without planning permssion? The tenants had to move out after six months.

No doubt he's a crony of the creep who owns half of Caldedonian Road, including subterranean bedsits with no windows, as featured in "The Street Where You Live" series on BBC2 a few years ago

If there were an automatic fine for submitting planning applications retrospectively I think that would help matters enormously.
