Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay's Kourelou bringing the best of Greece to "A World in London Live"

Hi Everyone - really proud that local band Kourelou will be playing "A World in London Live" this year. If any of you are fans of world music then this will be right up your street. What's even more fantastic is that three of the band members are from up our street!

Kourelou http://kourelou.co.uk/  are redefining Greek music so no more tired clichés about Zorba the Greek or plate-smashing tavernas. This Harringay  band, whose name means ‘patchwork’, draw on their Greek and South Balkans roots to produce a vibrant musical mash served with a contemporary twist.

The group was formed by Pavlos Mélas a little over a year ago after performing at the Southbank production, ‘Greece Is The Word’. The band’s broad repertoire is shaped by five core members whose instruments include violin, bouzouki, baglama, tzoura davul, defi, piano and guitar, further enriched by guest singers, musicians and dancers.

A World in London (AWIL) LIVE, is taking place on Friday 13th March at Rich Mix – East London’s cool arts and culture hub.

Everyone is invited to this free global music party, where guests can travel the world without leaving London. Before visiting Greece to hear Kourelou, guests will sonically stopover at a Shanghai tea-house to enjoy the exquisite silk and bamboo melodies of the SOAS Sizhu Ensemble https://www.facebook.com/groups/SilkAndBambooSOAS/ , and end the night to the hypnotic sounds and rhythms of the Twa communities by Mulele Matondo Afrika – the voice for ‘conscious Congo’. The evening is hosted by global music guru DJ Ritu http://djritu.com/  and produced by Cultural Co-operation http://culturalco-operation.org/  – the pioneering arts and heritage charity.

If you pre-register online you ( http://aworldinlondon.eventbrite.co.uk/ ) will receive a complimentary drink on arrival at Rich Mix and can get 20% off the delicious Indian street food served at the Indi-Go Café http://www.richmix.org.uk/visit/cafe-and-bar/ .

AWIL is the UK’s leading World Music show. First broadcast on BBC London 94.9 in 2006, it continues to showcase the most exciting global sounds in London.

Well, that's nice.

Would you now have time to answer my email of 26 Feb re Cuts to Day Care Centres, Children's Centres and Youth Centres ?

You might also give James Ryan a nudge.

Sad to say, I can't attend this event which I would love to have done.
