Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Much to my shame, it took my Kent-based sister-in-law to discover that Harringay has a cake shop that makes exceedingly good cakes.

Earlier this month she bought my other half a birthday cake from Adali Cake Show (on Grand Parade between Seymour and Warham). I looked at it and inwardly turned my nose up at it thinking that it was all fancy twirls but lacked what really makes a cake good.

I've since changed my mind. Adali cakes are seriously tasty. Added to that, the staff are all very friendly.

If you want to try before you buy a whole cake, they also sell cake by the slice.

All cakes are made on the premises by the owners.

Mr Adali really does make exceedingly good cakes.

Really???!!!!

I've had a cake from there before, never again. Bland sponge and really disgustingly sweet synthetic coloured icing. It was bought for me as a surprise and I pretended to like it so as not to offend, but ended up throwing it out.

On the other hand the celebration cakes from Yasar Halims are very good value at £14 or thereabouts. Fresh cream, fresh fruit, nuts and a nice glaze that isn't over the top, and the sponge is nice and light. They will even personalise it for a couple of quid extra. I take them in to work and my team prefer them to the ones from Selfridges that cost £40 or more.

Try Cakebox on Turnpike Lane. " Egg-free " for some reason but very tasty and moist.

Katie and the family are long gone to Brighton, but yes, she is very good.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that even a cake post offers potential for contention!

The cakes are not perhaps cakes like mother used to make and won't necessarily be right for every occasion or every taste, but go and try a couple of slices and see if you like them.

Ha ha. Was thinking that when I read this thread. It's down to individual taste. I too liked a cake we had from Adali. There's another bakery on GL where the last cake we bought was stale. Have had the best cheesecake from one of the Polish shops. Nothing beats home made but there are some pretty good baker's around here.

Coming from Italy I can confirm that food is probably the most contentious topic there is!

We popped in and bought two birthday cakes from Adali, the staff were so lovely and put writing on them. The cakes are stunningly pretty and I for one love fresh cream and light sponge. Having said that it was all last minute and if I had time to order there are some local bakers such as Beath by a Whisker I'd like to try for occasion cakes https://www.instagram.com/beatenbyawhisker/?hl=en
