Harringay Online Gets Social Sign-in/up
At HoL, we try to stay with the beat. In that vein, from today we've added social sign-in. That means from today at HoL you can sign in / sign up with Facebook, Google or Yahoo.
Give it a try. If you have any problems, please come back and let us know.

What if an existing member tries to sign in with a different Facebook, Google, or Yahoo email address?
Undoubtedly, some existing members may try to Sign In via Facebook, Google, or Yahoo right from the Sign In page, even if they originally signed up with an email address and password. When this happens, they'll be signed right in if the email address provided by Facebook, Google, and Yahoo matches the one they originally joined with. If it does not match, they'll be told that no account exists, and will be asked to sign in. Once they sign in, they can link their accounts (even if the email addresses are different) by going to their Settings-Connections page.

I dont believe you're too old Caterina! I am put to shame sometimes by people in their 80s who can whizz around social networking sites.... and I bet the ink has hardly dried on your birth certificate.
I wonder if it might be useful to have the advantages of this new tool spelt out?
And/or the disadvantages?

For most members, turning this on is all about convenience.
Existing members will now be able to sign in with a single click. (But - see the first comment in this posting, above)
Those who use Social Sign-In when signing up won't have to remember a password, nor will existing members who link their accounts using Social Sign-In. Even better, much of their basic sign-up info will automatically be filled out for new members.
I'm not aware of any downside. Anyone else?

Well of course there are downsides, If someone breaches your Facebook/Yahoo/Google account they can potentially cause chaos on this site and any other sites you have linked to the said account.
SSO (single sign on) is great in business situations (internally), because the end users don't have to remember several sets of credentials for different systems.
I like the integration, It will bring in a lot more members as *most* people have a Facebook account. Hugh, has there been a surge of new syndicated users?

Not as yet. Does this integration improve a site's discoverability as far as you're aware?

I would think so, if people are familiar with using SSO via Facebook and the like I expect you'll get more uptake.
