Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay Online clearly has a thing or two to learn from a small village in Switzerland

With a population of 79, the small Swiss village of Obermutten, got a global Facebook following of over 18,000.

The village of Obermutton took the concept of a Facebook like that one step further, promising each ‘like’ that their profile pics, would appear on the town's bulletin board!

Within months the whole village, and every space available was covered in profile pics, and this small Swiss village went from “Ober-who?” to a fan base of over 18,000 and an active tourism industry that some large towns and cities would die for.

However like many social media campaigns, a marketing plan and a marketing agency had been in place to start the ball rolling from the very beginning.

Now Obermutten is at it again, with a campaign to open a museum of gifts they receive from ‘fans’ from around the Globe.

It's great to see a community recognising the power of social media to raise the profile of their area with social media. This has been one of the things I've been working towards in out patch with the HoL website, its social media outposts, Wikipedia, BBC h2g2 and so on. Clearly I have  lesson or two to learn from the professionals!

Something like this with a little village where everybody knows everybody looks quite easy if they are at least enthusiastic about this idea to make their village more entertaining place. Phenomenos of little villages in mountains in Austria and Italy must work. But maybe one day awareness of local people of Harringay will create the village surronded by montains of rest of unknown and unfamiliar the rest of London

You've got nothing to learn Hugh. Doing just fine

That's a lovely story! I think HOL has already surpassed that in different ways, though.
