Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Harringay Market needs a new venue!
Sunday 20 July 2014 will be our last Sunday market day at our current venue, South Harringay School on Mattison Road.
This means that we are looking for another suitable venue in Harringay, and we have 7 weeks left to find one.
We have been open for almost two years, and I'd hate to close the market.
Therefore I am asking everyone's help with looking for a new venue for Harringay Market.
I know most of the local politicians frequently come to the market too, and I hope they can also help us with a solution.

That's a real shame Jessica. Can I just reiterate that if there were no other underlying issues, I think you should reconsider moving back to North Harringay. Surely a better option than closing the market altogether?
If I recall correctly, you moved the market from North to South Harringay in less than one year, in the market's infancy before it was able to gain momentum. Was it May time? It was lousy weather before and then suddenly the sun came out and the numbers 'improved' (natural for many markets). Yes, it may have been a good decision financially, but in my opinion, you didn't give NH a long enough run.
As I have said earlier, the demographics in the North of the Ladder have noticeably changed in the last two years. There are many more families and trendy Jam in a Jar types living here now and of course everyone in between. There's a great park opposite the market and it really isn't that far from the Gardens.
Do you know roughly where your customer base comes from? Ladder/Gardens/Stroud Green?
I hope the market survives this latest challenge.

Us too! We also felt, like Nick, that the market wasn't given time to bed in at NHP and the weather that spring was particularly bad. We found it far more family friendly than SHP – and Nick's right about there being far more families living at this end of the Ladder now – with more shade to sit under on the occasions it was sunny and better play facilities to keep the children amused (and also not on a slope!). Surely, if the school is happy for it to return, NHP has to be a better alternative that shutting the market completely?

I agree with everything Nick and Michelle said and would love to see Market back in NHP, I know you said it's not an option, but maybe you could put survey out to see if people would still visit the market if it was to come back to North Harringay? Surely it's better option than closing it all together

i was thinking about the format of some of the other lovely markets closeby ...Broadway Market, London Fields or Chatsworth Road Market
Is this something the council would support... The fact its on street level makes it a lovely addition to the neighborhood.
Suggestion - In front of the shops between Falkland and Alison. where there re quite deep set pavements.

Noel Park Market is not exactly Harringay but has just a few stalls and plenty of room and parking. Can't figure how they can stay in business......

I have 3 suggestions:
1. Very happy if the market returns to NHP,
2. Those new wider pavements at the bottom of each ladder road (top of each Garden) could accommodate a few stalls? Bottom of Burgoyne Road especially but most of them could host a stall or two - so the market spreads along the whole road? I liked the Hawes &Curtis suggestion as you might get more trade from the passing Green Lanes traffic, this could do the same.
3. The cul-de-sacs approaching Harringay station - both sides maybe. You'd miss the trade from passing Green Lanes traffic but maybe attract some folk from the "other side of the tracks"?

Yeah, outside McDonalds! Or better still a double fronted shop on Green Lanes ... gotta move with the times after all.

The pavement opposite Hawes and Curtis might have capacity for a few stalls? Get your electricity from Medlocks, water (and other refreshments) from JIAJ.
And thumb your nose every Sunday at H&C for turning down £3K.
