Great poster. When is the first date? But ........Hornsey?

yes why hornsey and not harringay it makes no sense.

Don't give in to them Jessica! North Harringay school is DEFINATELY in Harringay.

Anyway, regardless of the name I'm really looking forward to it. Must have taken a huge amount of organisation so congratulations to you and everyone else involved.

I am on the ladder and my postcode is N4 - which means of course that everyone thinks I live in Finsbury Park. Confused the Jobcentre!

There is no postcode for Harringay

N1 Angel, Barnsbury, Canonbury

N2 East Finchley

N3 Finchley

N4 Finsbury Park

N5 Highbury

N6 Highgate

N7 Holloway

N8 Hornsey

There is an alphabetical pattern.

I could continue but that would be boring

Yes Hornsey is the old postal district, but that doesn't determine your neighbourhood. It's the same with the electoral constituency; it''s Tottenham, but we don't live in Tottenham any more than we do in Hornsey. Schools seem to choose their district for marketing or political reasons. For example, Park View Academy insists on using Tottenham even though they know the school is in West Green.

Stick with Harringay, Jessica. I didn't notice it earlier.

Hornsey, Harringay ... whatever! Nice poster Jessica. Good old world packaging design.

Interesting you chose to include a cockerel in the design. The school recently acquired some chickens/hens.

According to the 1901 census, the school was in the Civil Parish of Hornsey, in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Hornsey St Peter's, in the Urban District of Hornsey, in the Parliamentary Divison of Hornsey and in the Ward of North Harringay!

The school was established by Hornsey School Board and in fact has the initials HSB in various parapets (or whatever they are called).

Yes, that was Hornsey Borough and Parish, of which the school was once part, as were Crouch End & Muswell Hill. However, Falkland Road never been in the neighbourhood of Hornsey. It's always been Harringay.

Depends what you mean by neighbourhood, Hugh. It's not a term I've seen used in census records.

Some parts of the ladder roads were part of Tottehnham, others part of Hornsey.

Census records tended to use borough / parish names. Local people, local shops and local papers used the neighbourhood name (Harringay) as no end of primary source historical records on this site will show.

Official divisions don't determine neighbourhood names. If we followed that rule Sainsbury's on Williamson Road would be in Seven Sisters and parts of Seven Sisters (proper) would be in St Ann's.

Love the poster and look forward to the market!

Just in case folks think I'm missing the point here, I guess I should say publicly that I think both market and poster are great. I've been meeting with Jessica to lend a hand where I can with the market and dropped her a note when she posted the first version of the poster this morning to say i liked it. Believe it or not didn't even notice "Hornsey" (I'm clearly slipping!)
