Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm sure I've seen the house name "Landview" on a house somewhere. Anyone know? If there was any school on Wightman I fancy the big old place at the top of Mattison as the most likley suspect.

I suppose they used Finsbury Park as the location since it sounded grander than Harringay.

The ad was taken from the Hornsey & Middlesex Messanegr, Feb 1 1889.

Any reference to the NOX & COX pollution levels at that time?

The reference to "Finsbury Park, London, N" was probably related to the London Postal area.  Certainly, at that time, the northern part of Wightman Road would have been addressed as Hornsey, Middlesex.  When numbering of London postal districts came in (1917 I believe) the Finsbury Park district got its present identity N4.  I don't know when Hornsey was transferred from Middlesex to London for postal purposes.  Kelly's directory shows it as Middlesex in the 1890s but by the 2011 census the forms say Hornsey, London N.

Interesting that they have vacancies for 'boarders'.
