Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A piece of land is up for auction on Effingham Road which is currently home to several derelict ex-council garages.

Using the Priory Gardens project as a springboard for ideas, do you think something of this nature could be achieved in Harringay? The basis is the community would own the site/project via a share buying scheme.

The site could be used as a safe grassed communal dog free area with seating, plants and even brick built BBQ. This could be used by local residents as a place to relax and meet friends.

This would not be a replacement or detract from other local open spaces and parks but would be an alternative and be owned by the local community rather than the local authority, plus increasing our local green space.

As far as I am aware the site could be bought and turned into housing, although it is possibly too small for this and due to its location may not get any planning.

What are your thoughts? Could it work? Do you think there is the enthusiasm to stump up the finances collectively bearing in mind the auction price guide is £130-140k? Plus finances for demolition and building work?

Andy Newman is your man.
Don't forget a community project a bit closer to home, the Community Garden in Doncaster Gardens as an inspiration of what could be done with a very small bit of ground. I'm not sure what the financial arrangements are for that though, might be worth talking to the GRA about it.
Just found out that the site is still owned by LBH and they want to flog it. What use it would be to a potential buyer, I don't know as it seems too small and too enclosed to build property there without annoying the people who live on the perimetre, not that that would put any developer off mind.

All legal information is available from the Strettons website but you have to supply you details. If you don't want to do that I have it all and could forward it on. I shall read it later to see if there is anything interesting in the paperwork.
