Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Rob Chau of Harringay Traders has just called me to ask me to let people know that tonight's Christmas tree lights switch on has been postponed due to problems with the power supply.

The switch on will now take place next Friday to give the contractors plenty of time to safely remedy the problem.

BTW, a public pat-on the back to the person who lives in the flat above Flame Restaurant and is allowing their flat to be used for the light projector.

Have the people in the Salisbury been consulted about this? It seems not, judging by the note in their window this morning....

What did the note in the window say, Nicola?

I've just spoken on the phone with Dave, Manager at The Salisbury and he's given me the background on this.

Apparently one of the residents in the flats above the pub posted a big notice in their window saying something along the lines of "F**K OFF WITH THE LIGHTS".

Dave assures me that it's nothing to do with him. Apparently when they were testing the lights last night, they were working without the filter that will project the Xmas tree image so the flats were being flooded with very bright light.

Dave explained, "When it goes live the filters will dim the lights to the extent that it will have little effect on the flat occupants. I expect the fellow who lives there didn't realise this."

Commenting on today's postponement, he added, "Actually, the date change might work really well. We can now use the lights switch-on to open the Winter Festival proper next Friday".

So roll-on down to the Salisbury Next Friday, folks.

that explains it, it was VERY bright last night...looking forward to seeing it.

Have spoken to the guys in the first floor flat, they have apologized about their offensive message, and they are not opposed to the tree projection, they didn't however realise that last nights bright light was connected, they thought that someone from the flat opposite was shining an extremly powerfull torch into their room! I work and live at the pub and have put notices up in the hallway, but am unsure of the response from the other residents.

Cheers Nick. I can understand the frustration. Here's hoping the real thing will be liveable for them.

Guess they must be testing it still. I'm tempted to go grab a picture, but perhaps best to wait till next week and not spoil the surprise.

OH MY GOD. I saw it on Friday. Had no idea it was going to be there and it was a bit like a magical dream. Absolutely stunning.

Cheers Liza; have just tweeted your comment here.

Will the Salisbury be open to those of us with children on that night?

You can have kids in the Salisbury every night... until 8pm. Well, that's my experience.

FGS ! They'll be letting women in next
