The Haringey Befriending Service (HBS) based in High Road, Tottenham, provides support to people with varying conditions, including depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Volunteers, who do not need previous experience, will help individuals with shopping and engaging in conversation.
HBS, which has been running for a year, currently has 15 volunteers, but there has been such a high demand that more are needed.
HBS’ care co-ordinator Paulette Case-Robinson said: “Volunteering is a two-way process and befrienders get a great sense of doing something worthwhile as well as helping someone out.”
