Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I went up to Wood Green Library this morning to get a permit for a loan car I have this week. I was told that no permits or vouchers can be issued since the computer system is not working. When I asked what I should do about my loan car, I was told simply to appeal any tickets given.

Walking past a parking officer just now, I asked if he knew whether or not the system was back up. He told me that it had been down for four days. "We can't even download our comments", he said. I'm not quite sure what that means, but the implication seemed to be that thing are well and truly messed up.

Blimey.

I regret to say I had a rather childish meltdown when I went up to Wood Green on Friday to sort my new motor’s permit out. I threw about the horrendous “why am I paying my council tax“ line and persisted a bit, and walked out with two complimentary permits for GL(B).

These were supposedly the last two they had printed - as Hugh said they’re unable to produce more while the system is down. For those not acquainted, the relevant details are printed on the white box at the bottom, and the printing process is via the system. At one point they talked about putting my reg on the “reserved list” (whatever that is), but they couldn’t even get on that.

As a public servant myself I can’t say I’m hugely proud of the angry eye rubbing skit, but in my (flimsy) defence I had enquired about this on the day I bought the car a week before and have heard zilch, only to take a morning off to find nothing was working. Having regathered what little humility I had left, I peeled myself off the ceiling and apologised profusely - they were all hugely sympathetic and we had a decent chat about said system which was affecting a large number of London boroughs... which to me suggests it may not necessarily have been the best investment...

As a footnote, I had previously called Thursday and a rather exasperated officer told me Haringey have a new enquiry system which forces enquiries to be handled in order, and they’re just not getting through them. I wonder if these are linked - although I’m minded to think the officer was mistaken because that would be an extraordinary functionality oversight...

I take it all tickets are appealable. The problem for me is I’m away for work overnight Wednesday, so if it all comes back on Thursday it’ll inevitably end up with me getting a fine that is trickier to argue. Which is probably a fair comeuppance, but y’know...

The system is - for now - working again. I sorted my permit this morning.

It was with some trepidation that they opened, mind, so they're not convinced it's entirely fixed.

Thanks - clearly not enough confidence to update their online news story which still shows the system as being down.

So I called and apparently there are long queues and the parking team are advising to come tomorrow (or after if you can wait).

.....and they're now issuing penalty notices....
