Haringey MPs back credit union plan

Many Haringey residents and employees have already pledged support for the Haringey Credit Union and now they have been joined by both David Lammy who said, "Credit unions offer affordable help and I am calling on everyone in Haringey to pledge their support for a credit union in the borough" and Lynne Featherstone who is happy to back the scheme adding "With many local residents struggling with crippling debt, a people's bank which gives access to good value loans and stops residents falling into the arms of loan sharks is definitely a good thing."

Haringey Council is working with Islington and City Credit Union to get the scheme off the ground, but pledges of support are key to its success.

With public backing from Haringey residents and workers, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) is more likely to give Haringey, Islington and City Credit Union the official recognition needed to enable it to offer local people a lifeline out of poverty.
