Haringey move from NHS trust to 'Foundation Trust': consultation under way

Foundation Trust Consultation

Did anyone else got the Foundation Trust Consultation document? There seems to be no discussion whatsoever on this topic which makes me wonder??? It states consultation started on the 3rd of May and will end on 25 July. I only got it last Friday June 3rd.

Interview with Dr Ron Singer

I found this excellent 13 minutes interview with Dr Ron Singer. It is encapsulating the issues rising from the proposed NHS bill. Among other things the topic of Foundation Trusts is being discussed and that is highly relevant as we are currently consulted on that very issue. Well worth watching if you really want to know what Haringey proposed changes to the local NHS trust, would mean in practical terms.

Consultation document tells us nothing about what the change will really mean

This consultation document demonstrate what Haringey really excel at - how to spend thousands on design, print and distribution of consultation material, that tells the public absolutely nothing of value, but is a shameful spin. This one is a true classic.

If we say nothing about it, we will surely keep being treated like idiots... (Chances are we will, no matter what we do...)

To really appreciate what I am saying here, you will need to both watch the interview and read the consultation summary document put through doors... It can be also be downloaded from here

I work for the trust and only got my consultation documents at work TODAY!!!!!  and haven't received anything at home.  The consultation is for mental health services only by the way.

The mental health trust tried to get foundation status three years ago but did not achieve it.  They say in their consultation that 'In the three years since then, we have achieved most of the things we planned to become an NHS Foundation Trust'. My take on it is that they were not successful 3 years ago as the public said no! (we were listened to!!)  because they could not get enough elected members from the public.

Do what you think is best but foundation status to my mind means the first step towards privatisation of our mental health service.  If we want a mental health service that continues to serve our community based on a persons need for specialist support and care and not by the ability to pay for such a service then this must be stopped.

Ron Singer says it all.

Thank you so much for your input. It is interesting to hear from someone who is directly involved. Reading the leaflet it is not clear if like you state the change is meant ONLY for the mental health part or the whole NHS trust.

Knowing what you know, would you say the consultation document accurately outlines or describes the outcome of such a change?

There's a public meeting next week, come along and get your questions answered:

Haringey – Tuesday 14 June at 7.30pm
Main Hall, Triangle Centre
91-93 St Ann’s Road
Tottenham, London N15 6NU
