Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

SOMEONE may have thought they were helping Haringey Council by creating a Twitter account that is an attempt at parody of a noted Council critic, Tottenham's Mr. Martin Ball.

According to this article in the Tottenham & Wood Green Independent, the Council have denied that anyone within the Authority has set up the account and Mr. Ball has said whoever set it up should "get a life".

Mr. Ball is unaligned politically.

It's said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

All that "MoanyMartin_N17" has achieved is to direct more attention to the real Mr. Martin Ball, who tweets under the moniker, @martinballN17.

Under a more generous and enlightened administration, Mr. Ball will be presented with a letter of grateful thanks by the Local Authority for the amount of work he has done in and for the community.

I'd like lots of people to look at that account and also to look at the list of followers!

Well, there's you, Tottenham Conservatives, a shop keeper in Newcastle, some councillors and a bunch of people I've not heard of
Money for a new logo, money for PR is there really a recession, with public services on their knees?

Michael, MoanyMartin began as a light-hearted "spoof" about Tottenham activist Martin Ball and his Twitter account. MM even has the cheek to use Martin's own photo.

The Moany Twitter account is currently followed or endorsed by several of the most senior elected representatives of Haringey Council.

If Moany Martin was begun within Labour Party circles, with the intention of undermining a noted complaining resident, then it is an own goal.

MM – who claims to be just a local – can only bring ever more intention to the real Mr. Ball's tweets that include photos of fly-tipping, uncollected rubbish and overflowing bins.

Do do as John suggested: take a look at MoaningMartin while it's up. I don't think it'll be around for long.

So if all its accomplishing is giving the real Martin Ball more oxygen what's the problem? Imitation the sincerest form of flattery and all that. I myself have tweeted 5 times in as many years. I have 5 followers, 2 I know and three I've don't know from Adam. If this Moany bloke was a labour leadership invention would they be quite stupid enough to publicaly follow him/her/it? I would imagine it's someone with too much time on their hands (and no, it's not me)

Nor me

But, having had a brief look at the posts ( tweets ? ) the style seems oddly familiar.

Give us a clue John. Promise I won't retweet it!

Well, it's somebody who cares about punctuation - which rules out a lot of people on here and any PR company that I've encountered.

If the rubbish wasn't there every night he could be a good boy and sit inside watching Sky News. To criticise him in this manner "who appointed him?" is a bit fascist.

In my humble opinion last year's FOI bandwagon that he jumped on with regard to hounding the previous manager of Tottenham Market off the green was a big mistake. When you do things, you make mistakes sometimes.

My point here is that the council and a local business seem to be behind this anonymous (and therefore scary) account. His first two followers were ChickenTown and the guy who owns it. The next two were Claire and Joe. It's sinister and sadly, how politics is done in Haringey. I guess Martin should be thankful he doesn't have a harassment notice.

"I don't think it'll be around for long."

Certainly not many tweets but the account is still there.

Alex said "I couldn't give a stuff about this one way or the other, but just to point out the perhaps not-so-obvious, his/her first tweets were to @chickent0wn @haringeycouncil @clairekober, so it's hardly surprising that they would be the first followers, is it?

Good examples of the shill fallacy on this thread generally.http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Shill_gambit

It's just somebody that disagrees with you. So what?"

No Alex you have confused "following" with "being followed". The Dear Council Leader followed @MoanyMartin_N17 as well as him following her. Just how childish is that for someone in that position? That is the level of local politics. Martin is the one subject to Ad Hominen attacks and seems to have the implicit support of many local councillors, not the anonymous person behind his parody account.

Me accusing @MoanyMartin_N17 of being a PR consultant was wrong, I'm sorry.

You don't just follow someone back like that. I see the following, given that it's just a parody account, by basically the entire cabinet, as tacit approval of it. One single resident was hassling them to sort out an issue and here they all are lining up behind this anonymous person who's calling him out as being a dick.
