Apparently Haringey council have blown ALOT of this money before they built anything (from this fund below) and can’t really build much now …

It will probably end up being "written off" as is the case with so many "easy come easy go" public funded elements and of course no one will be held accountable for such a financial waste/loss of tax payers money!

They all look like sensible projects. No idea why every school street has to be consulted on to death anymore - its obvious  from all the ones already in place what works and what exemptions need to be in place for residents and blue badge holders.

I think it’s a legal responsibility to consult on a permanent traffic management order Elizabeth

Well in Tower Hamlets they've had a bunch of money taken away because they've taken out some of the changes to favour the dominance of cars on the streets over people.

I haven’t promised any money to anyone

Is the criticism that all or some of these projects are "waste". Could you please say a little as to why?
And is money spent on consulting residents also (always?) waste as well?
Or is the problem simply spending public money on public projects per se?

I resigned from the Labour Party some time ago and have (and had) no problem challenging mistaken policies - locally and nationally. (Under my real name too.) Sometimes joining marches against them.

They have spent a lot of money narrowing the road/widening the pavements/adding planters & cycle lanes on Mayes Road just behind Shopping City. This will make the adjacent pedestrian crossing significantly safer to use when the work has finished. And road narrowing/landscaping has commenced on Caxton Gardens.

Lots of criticisms "Finsbury Park Ranger"' Some allegations. But a shortage of fact. "Apparently" and "probably" doesn't  make it fact.

Is it a confirmed fact that the "same 27 people came to the same four events"? Were you one of these assiduous 27? Did you make one or more proposals and if so for what?

I didn't attend these events. But just four events costing "hundreds of thousands of pounds" doesn't match any Haringey consultation  I've been to over many years. (And I went to lots.) They were sometimes imaginative and creative. I occasionally had conversations with intelligent thoughtful staff who seemed keen to make genuine improvements.
Other consultations were poorly  organised and a bit chaotic. Occasionally there were ignorant staff and consultants who were challenged - sharply, though politely - by me or other residents

I took photos and sometimes made recordings when I realised we were hearing bullshit. Because I dislike mobile phones I bought my own cheap pocket cameras and a voice recorder.  I posted stuff online as EMC2 has done, above

The best consultations were followed-up with a report and a summary of suggestions and points raised. In other words the process was recorded. Informal Citizen accurate recording and informed comment improves this process.

You seem to know what was said at the consultations so perhaps you could tell us?

Don't rely on memory.
On becoming a councillor I used cheap digital cameras to photograph and occasionally video stuff such as e.g. potholes, dumping etc.
And boards with misleading nonsense.

This was some Poverty Denial on a Haringey display board in 2014.

I also recorded some of the verbal stupidities they came out with.
Many people now have smartphones which are capable of these democratic functions.
Plainly this scared incompetent bureaucrats as they tried to block me emailing this stuff. Their attempts at censorship failed as soon as the use of cheap cameras caught on; and then when smartphones were widely adopted.

Finsbury Park Ranger, instead of simply repeating your allegations, you might want to consider asking them as questions - eg. under the Freedom of Information Act. Maybe the answers will provide substantial evidence to support your viewpoint that massive waste has taken place of £2million.
And - if I understand you correctly - that the cost of four meetings was hundreds of thousands. And that how money was spent had little or no relationship to the views of residents.

I don't assume you're wrong. And indeed in the past I have seen a phenomenon called "Maslow's Hammer" (also known as The Law of the Instrument).  It describes a process when people are heavily biased towards action within their own limited fields of knowledge and skills, so they propose a "toolbox" as what's needed to solve any problem presented.

If you were in Tottenham after the 2011 riot you may have seen some examples. We heard mentoring agencies suggest a need to fund more mentors. Trainers proposed more training. Therapists came to offer therapy. We had a well known architectural practice who came for a while; and got free premises and a few contracts. Plus a property developer who recommended large scale property development. One or two of these purported benefactors were able to define the agenda and control resources - imposing actions and policies they favoured.
