Doubtless informed by the park Events Team, the council’s big & busy Public Relations Team contributed to the Islington Tribune story: Missing park benches found in weeds.
Their statement included:
“The twelve benches are currently being
refurbished and improved and will be returned
to their previous locations in the park when ready
Based on recent photos, at first I thought this might be less than 100% accurate.
How wrong could I be!
I now see this as evidence of the council’s extraordinary commitment to the highest standards of maintenance. To my untrained eyes, the 12 park benches lined up in the Nursery appeared to be undamaged and in good repair.
More than a check-up
However, the eagle eyes of vigilant staff had spotted faults that casual observers can so easily miss. It is clear that the ongoing renovation is comprehensive:
Further testimony to the Team’s care and attention to the finest details, has to be the sheer length of time that the 12 benches have been in the workshop. And still not quite ready.
12 months
The year of work surely reflects the care and devotion lavished on the benches by expert engineers and technicians, all overseen by the Events Team.
Such an overhaul cannot be rushed. It is reassuring to know the Workshop-12 will not be released until they are in perfect, pristine condition, down to the last nut and bolt, to the most exacting standards.

Could the refurbishment service be offered to any other parks in our Borough?

Can they repair the big divit a HGV took out of the road by the central cafe a few days ago? HGV's on the road on 30degree days consitently tears up soft tarmac and makes the parks road very unplesant to use on a bike or wheelchair. And when I say repair I don't mean wait until a week before the festivals to do it as usual.
Why do we let HGV's into the park? Non of them stick to the 5mph speed limit and they drive passed literal playgrounds. Feels unnescarily risky for a park. Would the council be liable for an accident? Probably not, would they be morally culpable for letting hudnreds of needless HGV's into a park? Very likely.
Also shoutout to the krankbrother festival employee parked over the only dropped kerb by their entrance - really makes using the park a pleasure when your trapped on a pavement with the propsect of backtracking 600m to find a free dropped kerb and then backtracking antother 600m to get back to the same place. Plenty of other spaces free, they just chose the worse one for disabled peope like a champ.
