Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey celebrates all things 50s for the Story of London festival

The third Story of London festival runs from 1-31 August 2011. This year the festival celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, which was held to show a progressive view of post-war Britain and showcase contemporary design and innovation.

Five London boroughs, including Haringey will recapture the spirit of 1951 and show how their boroughs celebrated back then so you can relive the original festival, enjoying retro events with a 21st century spin.

There will be a programme of events at Bruce Castle Museum and Hornsey Library. All events are free but places are limited. Book directly with venues, follow links for contact details.

A full list of events around London including at the Southbank Centre (the Dagenham Girl Pipers might bring back a few memories) can be found on this page. On the 28th August, the South Bank centres host all five local museums who will be taking a bite size version of their events to showcase.

Here's some photos of what Harringay looked like back in 1951
