I wrote about this tree a few weeks back and how local campaigners are trying to save it from Hackney Council's development plans.
This week it was announced that the 150 year old plane tree has won Tree of the Year to the delight of campaigners.

Of course, the winning of this award guarantees nothing as was proved this week when a former winner of Tree of the Year, the 250 year old Cubbington Pear was felled for HS2 as heartbroken locals watched. The tree was thought to be the second-oldest wild pear tree in the country.

Unfortunately most,well nearly all developers get there own way in the end,usally when no one is around they will fell the tree,legally or illegally,they will pay the fine and procede. Absolutely criminal behaviour.
