I think we Mac-ies have all been very good.. not one boast or put down of the PC brigade.. to be seen.

Of course we don't need to.. we know we're a cut above the rest...

Seriously though.. If Steve Jobs does snuff it (hope not), then things will look quite different in the 'Mac future'.. I dread to think..

First my Eight-track in the car became obsolete, nobody else apart from me, seemed to have a Sony Betamax video recorder (they all had VHS crXp), then my Doc Martens became too fashionable.. VW's seems to be going back to base with its join up with Porsche and then now to have to even consider Macs post Steve Jobs... It's going to be a horrible 2009

I've pretty mush used every one of those macs, it scary the progress that has been made in twenty five years not just with Apple but with technology in general.

I've still got a 1991 Power Book and a 1993 colour classic in the cellar.. Can't bare to part with them... plus a Betamax VR..

oops...I can hear the the Harringay Housewife with her unclutter 2009 coming along..

Liz it's sweet of you to post this, especially since it appears you have yet to get involved with your First Mac (is this a sign of good intentions?!). The article you pointed to is about heritage: there's something special about most of the models shown (although not every single machine Apple has ever made is necessarily brilliant).

One never forgets one's First. Once you've had Mac you don't go back.

My First Love Mac was a second-hand (six-months old) Mac IIcx and it cost me £4,000. Since they cost £5,600 new, I was getting a bargain. That was in 1989. Ah, happy days. I still have it somewhere, I couldn't bear to part with it.

In its time it was the cat's wiskers and pajamas and dog's bollocks all rolled into one. Since then there've been many more Macs, inlcuding my current squeeze portable, a 17" PowerBook G4. Still The Daddy!

Actually, I started my adventures with computers on a Mac when the school I was working in bought six of them for teachers to work on way back.
I did love it but when the school was wired for access for all, it was PCs they installed and that's what we got used to.
Since I never buy a computer new but always have someone else's second hand ones, I end up with PCs. Mac users don't get rid of their old computers, they keep them in the cellar when they break one or when they upgrade :)

I remember raising momey at the south harringay school summer fair for the mac fund. we ended up buying a second hand 1984 version for our efforts (in 1989!).
