Good question, 'Why did they (the council) close the (8) youth clubs?'

Can't be for saving money. They don't cost much to run relatively speaking. In fact they save money/police time by giving young people something to do, instead of 'fighting' and doing 'street robbery', to quote the video commentators. If the council was/is serious about saving money they need to deal with their biggest lost making asset Alexandra Palace. But that's not as easy as closing youth clubs is it. Dealing with Ally Pally requires imagination.

Once again, Haringey council decides to do away with basic services without actively looking for alternatives. Have they bothered to consider working with childrens' charities or with local community or residents groups in a bid to keep youth services alive? No, they made the decision to cut three-quarters of the total youth budget and spend vast amounts of time and energy blaming the coalition government. If the council stopped wasting vast amounts of taxpayers' money, including on Ally Pally, a venue nobody visits, and the continued publication of Haringey People, a council newsmagazine nobody reads, then the borough wouldn't be in this continued mess right now....
This seems a bit more poignant now than last week. Surely Haringey should reconsider in light of what has just happened.
Agree. The council need to hold an emergency review about the impact of their proposed (and some already enacted) cuts to local services (after of course they've dealt with the impact of Bruce Grove/Tottenham High Rd/Tottenham Hale/Wood Green being trashed).
