Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago Liz and I had a chat on Twitter about maybe starting a project to prepare (weekly) meals for people with a low income. These meals would be prepared by a group of volunteers, where possible with produce grown in the area.

But from that starting point I got loads of ideas about starting a movement against food waste in the area. I'm inspired by the community fridges in Germany and Spain where people put leftovers and any ingredients they can't finish themselves in a fridge which is in a central place, for others in the community. We could have a fridge here maybe, or maybe to start with community shelves. Anything edible we can share with others through these shelves.

There are so many people around here with fig, pear and apple trees, people growing their own produce, and it would be great if they could donate or exchange anything they don't use with neighbours. We could have a preserves swap.

We can organise a class around making chutneys or jams. Or a How To Grow Your Own Veg Day.

What I'm looking for is more like minded people who would like to be involved, we can meet up, discuss and take it from there. Any ideas are very welcome.

And if you've got ideas on central spaces in Harringay with a kitchen and a seating area, please give me a shout.

The working title is 'Grow Harringay'. Grow together as a community, grow your own, grow and learn from each other, grow and learn not to waste food etc.

Thanks in advance.

Jessica

I'm interested Jessica, I've sent you a connection request

Terrific idea

Wow! Best of luck with this. Michael Cosgrove

Sounds good! We're 'like-minded people', so would be good to be kept posted.

If it can involve children, then even better.

Hi Jessica,

I'm definitely interested in getting involved.
Please let me know when there is a meeting to discuss.
I grow veg in my back garden, there is always a glut of greens/beans etc.
I can also spare a few hours, maybe more each week

I am able to meet at Passion cafe on Sunday at 11
