Noticed a big increase in birds at our feeder in the last few days (7 Great Tits on the feeder at the same time this afternoon). Suppose it's the combination of terrible weather and a whole bunch of new, hungry mouths to feed.
Maybe we can house your woodpecker offspring. We have increased the food quality and quantity but sssh don't tell everyone else otherwise there won't be enough birds to go around!

Bit jealous here in Langham. Got sparrows and the odd blue/great tit. Had to change the food as the starlings were ruling the roost. Had to stop mealworm and fat balls and reduce it to mixed seed! Waitrose to Poundland!

It can be v tricky when squirrels decide they own your patch. Its as if they get a buzz out of trying to get one over on you. In a previous life I did manage to squirrel proof feeders. One way is to buy a pricey feeder(tho they work) or hang a feeder with a thin metal sheet cover on top so when they slide down the chain/rope they fall off. I have a pair of metal 'tree' type feeders and the squirrels cant climb up the stems.

I was training at Finsbury Park Track about a year ago, when I took these pictures https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151874151538082&set=g... Pretty sure it's a woodpecker, but not which flavour

Fantastic pictures

Fantastic!  Looks like it's a Green Woodpecker (obvious, with hindsight...) https://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/g/greenwoodpecker/
