I'm currently feeding a family of them 2 mins from wood green tube. Who would have known huh ? Got them coming pretty close to me now too, the trust building slowly.

The blue tits are practically sitting on my head now, they have no fear. Also got them coming right up to the window, where they can't see me in the reflection so can be three inches from them at eye level if I'm lucky.

I'll upload a video some time, it's like Piccadilly Circus on a sunny day.

Use suet pellets from wilko, peanuts and meal worm and keep feeders full or at least one not empty ALWAYS.
Noticed a big increase in birds at our feeder in the last few days (7 Great Tits on the feeder at the same time this afternoon). Suppose it's the combination of terrible weather and a whole bunch of new, hungry mouths to feed.
Maybe we can house your woodpecker offspring. We have increased the food quality and quantity but sssh don't tell everyone else otherwise there won't be enough birds to go around!
Yeah, let's not even mention bird houses. Keep those bad boys to those in the know. ;)

Bit jealous here in Langham. Got sparrows and the odd blue/great tit. Had to change the food as the starlings were ruling the roost. Had to stop mealworm and fat balls and reduce it to mixed seed! Waitrose to Poundland!

Got sparrows, that's pretty good, they are pretty rare these days, I would screw one of these to the top of your house under the drain pipe and see if you can keep your own 'host'.

If you have some blue tits you can grow that number quickly with a 24 hour eat as much as you want wilko buffet. Don't let it go down on your hols though, they love consistency, the challenge is to be more consistent than your neighbours. ;)

I'm actually jealous back, I've never had a sparrow once in my yard.

Currently trying to decide what to do with the local grey squirrels problem, was hoping to take them out to a trip to the country but apparently that's against the law for blighting the country side.

I would love to know if anyone manages them in Haringey council and if there is a number you can call to make a complaint about them bullying the rest of the wild life.

It can be v tricky when squirrels decide they own your patch. Its as if they get a buzz out of trying to get one over on you. In a previous life I did manage to squirrel proof feeders. One way is to buy a pricey feeder(tho they work) or hang a feeder with a thin metal sheet cover on top so when they slide down the chain/rope they fall off. I have a pair of metal 'tree' type feeders and the squirrels cant climb up the stems.

I was training at Finsbury Park Track about a year ago, when I took these pictures https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151874151538082&set=g... Pretty sure it's a woodpecker, but not which flavour

Fantastic pictures

Fantastic!  Looks like it's a Green Woodpecker (obvious, with hindsight...) https://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/g/greenwoodpecker/

This is a great photo of an adult male. Note second smaller red area below beak  It is very interesting to see it in a crouched & lowered position- presumably to make ant/insect eating easier?  Its tail is pressed against the ground , exactly as they do when vertical against tree trunks.  Green woodpeckers were fairly regular at Alex Palace in the sloped area to the south of the Palace. Don't know if they still are ?  I even saw one eating ants on the pavement outside Stroud Green library !

I would like to know if this bird is being ousted/replaced  by the  Ring-necked parakeet ? The beautiful green woodpecker has every right to be here, the ever-increasing parakeets don't.
