Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just tried out a new Turkish restaurant which opened a couple of weeks ago around the corner from us. It's called UMUT OCAKBASI and is on the right just past Woodlands Park Road if you going towards Downhills Park.

They have the usual open barbecue and the menu seemed pretty standard but the quality of the food and the service should get Antiplier worried...

Loads of freebies - houmous, tsassiki, 3 different salads and a fabulous baked onion dish. The meat was great too.

Very kiddy-friendly - the waitress offered to sit with my son and explain the menu to him and then offered both kids smaller cutlery. And at the end, I got a complementary cup of tea, which always goes down well.

Give it a try while they're still ou to impress!

Let me know when you're going - we are definitely up for an encore! x

Yay! Another Turkish restaurant! Just what the area needs, there's not nearly enough of them.

..sorry..

Ha ha ha...

There's also a new Turkish BBQ every Sunday at The Finsbury - £3 a plate, saves cooking.

:)

Yes...I walked past this yesterday around 4pm and it was livelier than ever in the garden! Smelled amazing too (but there was already a table at Antiplier with my name on it!)
Worth a punt Abi, they do vegan too. Sounds were good, Mr Tibbs. Only the weather put a dampener on things.
Ooh that's worth knowing! We thought it looked very meaty, but may give it a try next time
Is this Antipliler much good then? Not sure quite where it is. Went to Gokyuzu again Sat and while the food was fine, the long wait for a table we had already reserved wasn't. Still, can't see any of 'em beating Gallipoli, something I agree with my better half on..

It's at 46 Grand Parade in the middle of Green Lanes - correct spelling "Antepliler" (sorry!)

I really like it, have been back twice after discovering it only a few weeks ago so they must be doing something right! I know it's one of the more popular Turkish places along Green Lanes but have not yet tried any others so can't really compare. It does a really good mezze and I hear the baclava is very good.

Nothing compares to Antepliler. Gallipoli is a poor imitation It is the standout place to eat and leaves anywhere on green lanes in the shade. However other the past three months instead of the food being 100% tip top ,the standard of the food has dropped slightly . My girlfirend thinks its  because the chef has gone to work at the newly opened upper street outpost. Can anyone confirm this

Agreed - I'm not so keen on Gallipoli, I've had some bad meals there and there's never anything particularly unfamiliar or interesting to try - I guess it's much less authentic and a LOT pricier!

I did notice a new restaurant had opened in Islington also called Antepliler but with (I think) a different spelling so am guessing there is no connection. Anyone know?

its the same one. The charming man with the glasses (aka gentleman general) who used to be always by the till at the greens lanes branch now mans the upper street station.. It looks well swish from the outside and even has outdoor seating i think at the back . Looks like they have invested heavily so need all their number rated staff to steer the ship. Which is a shame cos i wanted to keep the taste sensation for green lane mouths only ...not for the upper street tourists. I guess cash is king and nothing remains a secret forever
