Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

St John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church on Wightman Road is one of 7 places of worship across London to receive a grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and English Heritage (EH) for urgent structural repairs.

St John the Baptist Church was originally built in 1897 in art and craft Gothic style, and passed over to the Greek Orthodox Church in 1983. It is a grade II listed building (1974)
It has been awarded a grant of £159,000 for the repair of its roof, high level masonry repairs as well as repairs to rainwater gutters and associated pipe work.

Jon Boulter, architect from St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Hornsey, Haringey said: "We are thrilled to receive the grant for urgent repairs to our church's roof and gutters. We have beautiful wall paintings on every wall inside the church and they are at a substantial risk of damage from the water leaking in from our roofs. It would be such a shame to lose these amazing pictures forever and without the grant, the congregation would have had little hope of saving them and repairing our much loved building."

I disagree that the congregation would have little hope of saving them. I see the cars these people drive to church on Sundays (my favourite is a black Maserati).
