Government Gateway frustration

I recently registered with Government Gateway and recorded my log in details. I was able to use this to get a new driving license. However when I tried to log on today, my details were not accepted. I was advised online to contact the dept I used. When I contacted DVLA they couldn't help and couldn' t advise. There appears to be no real way of getting any help as there is actually no helpline! Any ideas? Please only reply if you have some real information!

I hope your driving licence was correctly renewed in every particular by the DVLA - story here (Guardian) that entitlements are not complete on renewal and DVLA has binned their old records so it's retest time, particularly for motorbikes.

As for the substantive point, could you reregister?
