Getting rid of Christmas trees
You don't have to do this
When you can do this:
Cut it down to no bigger that 1 metre long and tie it together as a bundle and leave it in your front garden
or
Cut it down to fit it into your Haringey Council Garden Green Waste Recycling Bag and leave it it your front garden
Haringey Council will then collect it on your normal recycling day
or this:

Or alternatively just put it outside your gate (scroll down for info) on your recycling day.

Sorry, bit confused. Where does it say leave it outside your gate? That's what my charming neighbours did - where they all got stickered for flytipping.
As far as I can see, it says the same as I posted from the GRA above:
"If you receive a garden waste collection, cut your tree into smaller pieces and place it in your garden waste sack or an untied bag next to your green box."
Note that those who live nearer to Finsbury Park can get rid of their trees at Finsbury Park Staff Yard, Endymion Road entrance, N4

I will, of course, be running the annual discarded Christmas tree spotting competition again this year, last year won by Sandrine who spotted one chucked in the street on 21st March 2009.

As Liz mentions, towards the end of 2008 we talked over an idea to encourage Christmas tree recycling. Would local traders who sell trees agree to hand-out either a leaflet or a free tree ornament showing Haringey’s recycling arrangements? I suggested these ideas to both Encams (Keep Britain Tidy) and Haringey Urban Environment. I got a positive reception from both – but heard nothing more.
Liz also spotted New York's city-wide Mulch Fest ─ with added pizazz. Their parks offer free bags of mulch to people bringing in Christmas trees. (There’s even a short video.)
Time is now extremely short. According to my new 2010 diary there are only 358 days left to Christmas. So if we want improved Christmas tree-cycling in 2010/11, local councils need to start preparing now. If you have more good ideas about how to encourage this, please post on Haringey Online.

Andy of the GRA reports "Quite a good year again, this year, I reckon we have about 50 trees delivered to the community garden - not bad going I say...thanks to all who have been dragging them around the Gardens and Green Lanes so our streets are Xmas tree free"
and so say all of us!
Actually, I haven't seen as many as last year littering the streets in January although I obviously missed this one in Lausanne Road (lovely photo though)

Although artificial, the Christmas tree peeking from a box dumped in Dowsett Road is clearly well past it's glitter-by date. Is it allowed one final flourish in the annual competition?

I certainly think so - this spot beats Sandrine's record of last year by over a month and equalling your own record from the previous year, I believe ?
