Just a reminder that your garden birds really need you right now in the cold snap. Please do feed them if you can.
Especially the smallest garden birds, such as the blue tits, only weigh a matter of 30-40 grams and when the nights are so long and the days so short they have to go an awful long time without being able to eat anything to fuel that tiny body. Add to this the perishing cold and it adds up to a dangerous time for them. I found a tiny blue tit dead in the street the other day for whom the cold and the lack of food had proved just too much.
They give us such pleasure in the spring and summer - don't forget about them now!

Hi Sapphireblue
Please can you tell me if the Homebase feeder squirrel proof is any good? ive tried several versions - followed instruction etc but STILL the squirrels and pigeons mange to get it
I’ve seen dead birds in the area too, including one which I had overnight before it sadly died. I think we have trichomonosis in the area at the moment, so just wanted to add, please clean bird feeders & baths with an avian safe disinfectant every 2-3 days to help prevent the spread of infection.
Unfortunately the neighbours' cats prey on the birds and I hang food for them in the branches of my apple tree. I'd love to have a bird table!
I bought a window feeder from the RSPB, its great to watch them feeding.
