Free Trees for London: apply now if you know of a space that could benefit
100 FREE packs of trees are available to give to community and school groups in London this coming autumn.
Provided by the Woodland Trust and RE:LEAF, these packs contain either 105 or 420 native saplings and come in a mix of three different themes:
- Wildlife: blackthorn, hawthorn, hazel, silver birch, rowan, common oak
- Year-round colour: hawthorn, hazel, silver birch, rowan, wild cherry, dogwood
- Wild harvest: hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, elder, dog rose
The larger 420 pack also comes with protective canes and spirals. Trees supplied are between 20 - 40cm in height and are ideal for planting as hedges, copses or small blocks of trees.

Hi Liz, Could HoL apply as a group and do some guerilla planting (e.g. on the Ladder/Garden Roads), or do we need council permission for that?

Hi Doro, we would need to show that we had permission to plant on land be it private or council. That's part of the conditions. That said it was Andy of the GRA who flagged this up originally so he may have plans to apply for land in the Gardens. On the Ladder there are school gardening groups who may be interested as well as a number of parks groups and the Residents association, LCSP, so it might be better for these groups to apply if they know of suitable land. 105 trees is a lot of trees!
