Those of you who know me well, will know that I was more than a little sarcastic about the value of FourSquare, the check-in game that smartphone users clogged twitter up with for a while, telling me they were at their Nan's or at the bus stop (and that was it, no jokes, no wry observations, just 'I'm at X station").
However, it is beginning to evolve so that check-ins can earn you freebies.
Finally, the Londonist reports on a new scheme that might have persuaded even me to sign up... if I had a smartphone.
If you check-in at any of 600 historical locations around the capital during the next six months, you’ll be presented with a piece of trivia about the location. Check-in four times, and you get a badge.
Yippee do, I hear you say (well the trivia would be enough for me) but there's more.
Many of London’s top attractions, including the Globe, the Tower and HMS Belfast, are now using Foursquare to offer special deals. Check-in, for example, at Benjamin Franklin House and get 2-for-1 tickets to the museum. Or get 10% off in the Museum of London shop (home to an unrivalled collection of books about London).
