Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just wondering when Harringay Council stopped collecting food waste. I have been studiously putting my peelings out in the little caddy but noticed that for a few weeks the binmen have just been tipping it into the waste bin. When did this service get withdrawn?

It hasn't been withdrawn. If the bin men aren't collecting the rubbish properly, you can report it. There was a recent meeting between council and residents about this sort of thing. If you click the big pink button below left (Report Rubbish), you'll find a link to a list with all the contacts you need to do this.

Thanks Hugh. I was at the meeting but didn't hear anything about that. I just assumed that as I saw them doing it to my house and my neighbours that it had been a victim of the council cuts. I've emailed them now to ask about it

Alice, what happens is they have a large bin which they fill from our little caddies - this is then tipped into the recycling lorry when full/heavy.

Not in this case - they tipped it into my black / grey bin

Two thoughts - is 'the little caddy' a little black flip-top container or a knee-high green flip-top one. We tip from our black one into our green one and put that one out with no problem.

The other is - if you use a bag to line the caddy, is is definitely a biodegradeable one, made of special material and printed to identify it as biodegradeable? If not, they'll reject it as non-compostable.

Just heard back from the council that this recycling is still happening so they may just have 'missed' my house last month. Fingers crossed for this month!
