At this time of celebrations and eating out, it might be time to revisit the list of food outlets on Green Lanes who are not providing even a basic level of hygiene for their customers.
There are a few surprises in the list below and also possible answers to some recent posts (Flame v Selale).
Green Lanes doesn't come out of the Food Standards Agency's inspections any worse than other areas in terms of its food hygiene, but it there are some persistent offenders (some of the more popular places).
Below is a list of those businesses scoring a 1(major improvement necessary) or a 2 (improvement necessary).
At the bottom is a further list of those "very good" outlets which scored 5
I have limited the list to those inspected within the last 12mths.

Hi Jonny,
Thanks for flagging this up. I'm a reporter for the Ham&High newspaper and was wondering if you wouldn't mind having a chat with me about this issue as I'm currently working on a story around this subject. If so, please drop me an email at michaelkevinallen@gmail.com with your contact details.
Cheers =)
Michael
You're working on a story about nose hair clipper hygiene? Really?
I'm not doubting it for a minute. It's about bloody time someone shone a light! What on earth have our councillors been doing neglecting this??

The guys on Green Lanes do always use a fresh blade to shave your neck. They don't always do that at the "cheaper" places in the city...
I have my hair cut very expertly and quickly (unlike the faffing in posher salons) by Ozgur who is an extremely good hairdresser at Cocos. I've never noticed any hygiene issues or indeed any difference between this salon and the very expensive ones I used to frequent before I came to my senses.
The idea of letting a third party come near my nose with a blade is terrifying. Who on earth lets this happen? Or perhaps I've watched Chinatown too often.
You don't "let" anything happen. Those guys are really, really forceful and mostly don't speak English. Once the translator gives the instructions you are TOTALLY at their mercy. And don't forget that they're capable of stuff like this.
I think "Just Good" has closed. Vilaznia definitely has; it's the location of a new pizza place called Durazzo.
I'm sorry, but linking food hygiene with nose hair has put me off my Weetabix
Although I can see your intentions are good, I really don't think posting this info, which could be up to a year out of date, is very helpful. I'm all for knowing how hygienic a restaurant is before I eat there, but I think this kind of post could be doing more harm than good to places that struggle enough to stay in business as it is. For all we know, since their last inspection, some of the number 1 rated places might have taken on board all of the recommendations for improvement set by the inspectors or be under new, better management - and the converse is true for the number 5 rated places. As Nicholas has pointed out, some of them have closed and there are probably others that have undergone a full refurb or bought a new kitchen or something in between. I know that we have little choice but to rely on the inspections information as we can't expect there to be weekly or even monthly inspections, but I think posting it in this way, without up-to-date info on changes that might have been made, could be misleading and damaging to some good local businesses that we ought to be supporting. Of course, some of them won't have made any changes and we should know about that too (and then avoid them), but I think this list in isolation is a bad idea.
