Flytipping [again]
I've just reported the biggest mess of flytipping I've seen since living in the Borough via the council's helpful Report a Problem web page. It's not on the ladder but just up the road by Turnpike Lane tube (Graham Rd). What makes it the more galling is that it's all along a wall that the Turnpike Art Group are slowly turning from an eyesore into something that our little community can feel proud of.
Serious question: is there anything practical I can do in addition to reporting it promptly to the council because I really love my area but I'm getting sick and tired of living surrounded by other people's filth.

Anything practical you can do? Always report any flytipping you see to the Council, it helps them to build up a picture of hotspots and new patterns of flytipping. For example Harringay Passage, a long-term tipping problem, is acted on much better than a decade ago in my view, though it's always going to be vulnerable. Certainly when I've reported flytipping by email I get a response and the tipping is usually removed within 48 hours.
Beyond that, it depends on how far you want to go and what resources you have.
For example, next to me is a HMO; when flats had recently been renovated builders'/decorators'/tenants' waste ended up in the front garden, nor did the tenants bother overmuch about overflow from the wheeliebins. Trying to identify who's responsible and was going to do something about it led to shoulder-shrugging all round.
So I have been known to put on the rubber gloves and tidy up, or, because I have wheels, take the waste to the recycling centre. There's no litter currently in the garden, nor has there been for a few months since I last chose to do something, so perhaps it has stayed tidier than it otherwise might have.

You can tweet the council a photo of the problem. I have found this effective.

Seems a bizarre place to dump anything - right in the most visible and heavily trafficked part of the area. I bet it comes from someone moving into/out of Langham Close who couldn't be bothered to take it far. Is there any point in trying to find identifying papers among that? Will the council ever prosecute?
Where I am there was a real problem with flytipping (building rubble and big stuff) a few years back – they put in CCTV and it's pretty much stopped. But you can't do that everywhere...

Im not sure whats more annoying the van tippers who think this is OK, or the council whom seem very slow to remove the junk.
I've had recent success in the old Tottenham village area by keeping a photo grime diary and sending the photos to various persons higher up at the council, kinda shamed them into clearing up our part of the high street on a daily basis now, where as before matresses and old sofas could be left for weeks.
These tipping spots need to monitored and the persons doing the dumping need to be caught and fined, word will soon get round that its better to use the Haringey commercial dump than face hefty fines.
