The Guardian has published an article today covering the DIY Streets project just completed around Langham Road behind Turnpike Lane Station.
"As a regeneration policy it sounds almost too good to be true:an inner-city revamp that not only tempers traffic speeds and makes streets more pleasant but gives local people a stake in their community – and even alleviates loneliness. And all for a remarkably low price. That is the promised result of a two-year project in one of north London's more mixed neighbourhoods, Turnpike Lane – a scheme that its creators hope could transform urban planning around the country."
Watch this space fr more of the same in Harringay since The Gardens area of Harringay has the next £350,000 slug of Haringey money for a project to temper traffic there.

Why does the Gardens always get preferential treatment to the Ladder?
They got themselves cut off from St.Annes-Green Lanes whilst us on the other side just have to put up with loads of noisy traffic coming up our roads!!
To be fair to the Gardens, before the traffic calming it was a nightmare of rat runs. Also, they have a had a strong and vocal residents association for quite a while and as an association can make bids for money. We shouldn't blame them for being well organised and active!
There's also the layout of the streets to take into account. The Gardens only have 2 access roads on St Ann's to all the streets making the whole excercise logistically easier. Only one rising bollard is required to control traffic for the whole area. The other street has a locked gate. The Ladder roads would each require a bollard/gate.
I think the ladders would benefit from something like this which is just round the corner from Langham Road....http://goo.gl/maps/nUsk - no more bumps and shaking houses.
Thanks for posting the streetview pic, would be fantastic to get that type of thing done on ladder roads. They talked about this briefly at the area forum yesterday and made it sound like it wasn't a done deal that the money would be spent only the gardens not ladder. I think they said there was a thing happening on Sussex Gardens tomorrow where we can give them our views on what to do but i can't find anything about that now, does any one know about it?
