Maybe this is what happens when you bury your rivers... (this 1895 map shows the now culverted Moselle river, the dotted red line approximates to Shopping City now...

It's a 29! I used to ride this to meet my father at Scotland Yard (then in Whitehall) on Saturday mornings and to aunts and uncles in Enflield, plus sailing boats and flying planes and kites at Broomfield Park. It also took us to Victoria Station for a green (and boring electric) train to Lewes or Eastbourne for our summer hols; August - stooks in the fields and blackberries on Lewes racecourse (plus wasps by the zillion!). Mind you they were smelly, ricketty  RLs and RTs - not posh Routemasters!
