Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just announced on the Haringey Council website, flats above shops will be able to recycle at home instead of having to take their recyclables to public recycling banks.

The council will provide the household with a regular supply of clear bags in which to put their recycling. This will prevent any mix ups between fly tippers who leave black bags on the highway and these bags for authorised pick up.

Goods that can be recycled using these sacks include:

* paper,
* cardboard,
* drink cartons,
* tins and cans,
* plastic pots, trays, tubs and bottles and
* glass bottles and jars.

This is the same list as for people using green boxes or the large communal banks on streets and at blocks of flats. The only difference is that they are asking residents using clear sacks not to put any broken glass out for recycling, for health and safety reasons.

The recycling sacks will be collected at the same time and from the same location as the existing refuse sacks. This means that residents will get at least one collection per week, whilst some will have daily or even twice-daily pick-ups.

Where there are timed collection arrangements in place for refuse on main roads, residents need to observe these as well for the recycling clear sacks.

Dual-compartment vehicles will be used for this service. One compartment will be used for refuse, whilst the other is for recycling. The collections will be undertaken by Haringey Enterprise, rather than our in-house Recycling Service.

The recycling is delivered to the Greenstar facility in Enfield, under the same arrangement as our existing recycling from green boxes and communal banks.
