Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I know this is being discussed in another current thread, but can we have a dedicated thread for the new fish and chip shop opening on Green Lanes near Harringay Green Lanes station? Yes, we can. Not least because it looks quite big and interesting, eg, restaurant and takeaway.

Pav I am stealing your photo from today. Hope you don't mind.

Toffs in Muswell Hill - not worth the trip (IMHO)

George's - OK (ditto)

Priory Fish Bar - OK (ditto)

New one that might be called Hashtag Fish and Chips - fish fingers crossed that it's excellent.

I really am quite excited.

The chippy by the tube you mentioned sort of tried that - well they had a photo of local Mylene Klass on the wall for many years

Perhaps they are trying to capture the spirit of Sarfend.

Don't forget Mike Leigh and Alison Steadman. Mike Leigh lived in Woodside Road, opposite Wood Green police station for over 30 years!

Had dinner at #Hashtag on Thursday 18th June.

Verdict:

- Great to have a fish & chip restaurant (with sit down) in Harringay

- My fish (Haddock) was superb

- Chips were disappointing

- It's bad etiquette to whip away someone's empty plate while their companion is still eating

- Thumping background music in an a place where acoustics are already loud was irritating

- Change for bill came back £1 short

- Is it overpriced?

Good luck to them while hoping for improvements.

I went there for lunch today and will give it a 5/10. One of the big negatives for me is that I don't think there is any sustainable fish on the menu. The quality fish we had was fine but the batter was average whilst the chips were really bland. The beer menu was uninspiring to say the least. Service was great. Music was way too loud and really naff and ruined the atmosphere. I also felt it was a bit over priced. The decor was pretty cool although I prefer my chippy to feel a bit more cosy. Nevertheless, it's nice to have a chippy at the end of the street and hopefully they'll improve over time. I'll be back.
Such a shame about the loud music - not really my cup of tea when I'm eating.
I left a comment on their Facebook page. The music really is dire. More like a funfair than a restaurant.
Agree with the consensus. Fish good, chips meh. The fish seemed to be fresh and the batter good and crispy. My partner gave it the thumbs up, and she's from the North East, so she knows whereof she speaks.

Thanks for the warning about the music. They won't be seeing me there then

Have now been and agree with the consensus. Some improvement in chips would be great. Loud music is always a turn off so perhaps they could start with sorting that out.

FPR, which chippie in Wood Green are you speaking of?

It's a good chippie, I concur.

Went tonight for a meal firstly didn't stay as I was put off by the loud music, decided to have a takeaway. the fish wasn't ready and I didn't fancy anything else so my daughter had fishcake and small chips. They were both still warm when we got home the chips were crispy but tasteless and the fishcake was bog standard only £1.50, but would of happily paid more for a home-made fishcake. I am happy to give it another go for take-away and to try the fish next time!
