First Night of the Hornsey Comedy Club

Last night I accepted an invitation to the first night of the Hornsey Comedy Club, run in the Great Northern Railway Tavern on Hornsey High Street.
There was a great atmosphere and almost a full house in the newly converted area towards the back of the pub. So seamless was the light touch conversion that it looks for all the world as if the space had been designed for theatre.
I was only able to stay for the first half, but I was impressed with the steady hand of master of ceremonies Ian Rigby, who did a great job warming up the audience into a veritable Hornsey frenzy before each act came on stage.
I'd say overall, from the acts I saw, the Club shows real promise. Whilst some acts needed to be a bit sharper, there were some good laughs and a warm atmosphere. In particular, I'll remember the final act of the first half puzzling out the real lyrics to a song from seventies movie, Barefoot Executive.

Mrs Bushy went along with some friends and, while she didn't share your enthusiasm for the host, reported that the headline act (James Acaster) was really top notch (as well as a couple of others being fairly good). For a fiver, oustanding value.
She also reported that they've got a deal with North London's best pizzeria, Tomo, whereby you order your pizza from the comfort of your pub seat and it gets delivered right to you.
Which makes me wonder, though, does that mean they've stopped operating their own kitchen? Would be a shame given how promising it initially sounded.

Ah, that's what was happening with the pizza thing. I saw one delivered and thought it was nice of the pub to allow it - even smarter of them to set it up! I'll check with landlord Tony Lennon about the kitchen.

I think the kitchen's shut on Monday and Tuesday - not sure if you can get Tomo pizza in on any other nights (wouldn't have thought so).

@harringayonline I can 100% guarantee that our kitchen is operating at full strength. Mondays and Tuesdays we close it as its normally very quiet. I had a deal with Tomos Hornsey to do pizzas on these days so I could offer something rather than nothing.

We also went on Tuesday - and agree headline act at the end of the show was brilliant. For a fiver it was a bargain - but quite a lot of polish needed on other acts. Might go to the last one before Xmas and would recommend for something different to do - and lovely pub of course.
