Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just noticed a closure sign about the N4 sorting office.

I couldn't be more infuriated about this now. They're moving to the existing depot down the other side of Holloway Road. I used to live in Holloway and that was my local depot. Now a 300 yard trip to the sorting office to see John and pick up my vinyl purchases is going to be a 6 mile round trip!

Didn't even know they called it that - odd given that it's in Harringay.

There's lots more on this from last Autumn on Harringay Online.

....FP makes sense , but what about the "...and South Tottenham". I don't think any of SoTo is N4 is it?

Well...some of it is thirty seconds walk from the N4 border, so I'd imagine that an individual sorting office could easily cover both areas. Perhaps it refers to the breadth of where it serves rather than where the office is currently located?

Praps

That's a postal district, Anne. AIn't the same as a neighbourhood. They call N8 Hornsey and N4 Finsbury Park. It just doesn't match most other understandings of where neighbourhoods are. For me postal districts are of little more use than electoral wards in helping understand where people on the ground see neighbourhoods.

Yes, you're right. Sorry, had my head somewhere else.

It's because it serves all of N4, I only just discovered quicker way to get there, on 29, instead of on overground, new place looks like a very long walk

I have now been to the new place twice. The office doesn't seem to be very busy.

If you're approaching on foot from the east (along Tufnell Park Road) there is a small short cut to the Bush Industrial estate by turning right (north) into Huddleston Road and then right into Station House.

From the main junction, Station House Road is about 400m long.

I am told there used to be a railway station in Station House Road and it would have been much less inconvenient for us if a station were still there, as it would have been a direct route from Harringay Green Lanes or Crouch Hill stations.

If you're near Finsbury Park station, the Number 4 bus is not too bad a connection, but make sure you catch it from under the railway bridge and not from the main concourse, otherwise you'll be heading for Islington.

Is this the one at Arena Shopping Park... bottom of Green Lanes?

If so, that is outrageous!

Yes, the one most of us think of as the Harringay Sorting Office. See my links above. Their lease ran out.

Ha! That is hilarious. I too used this one when I lived in Holloway, and thought of it as quite a way to travel. Either I'll soon be in for a lot of sorting office nostalgia or I'll get all my packages delivered to my office in Central London...

I suppose I'll try and get things delivered by Yodel or UPS rather than Royal Mail.
